Bible Songs For Kids

Kumbaya: A Christian Campfire Song for Kids

Good News GuysSeptember 25, 20262 min read

Grab a blanket and gather around the fire, or around the living room lamp. Kumbaya is a simple song your family can sing anywhere, and it carries a promise worth talking about.

About This Video

What Psalm 145:18 Teaches Us

Kumbaya means “come by here,” and the song is a simple prayer asking the Lord to draw near. That longing is exactly what Psalm 145:18 describes: “The Lord is near to all who call on Him, to all who call on Him in truth.”

David wrote Psalm 145 as a song of praise, and this verse sits near the end of it. The promise is not that God is nearby in some vague way. He is near to those who call on Him honestly, with real hearts rather than perfect words.

That is a wonderful truth for children. They do not need a special place, a special time, or impressive prayers. Whether we are at home, outside enjoying God's creation, or gathered with family and friends, we can turn to Him in prayer, and He is near.

Talk About It Together

Ask your family: “What is something we can talk to God about today?”

Sing Kumbaya together as a prayer before bed this week, and add one thing your family wants to talk to God about before each verse. You can also take it outside, sit under the sky, sing it once, and thank God that He is near you right there.
